Amsterdam for A

We started our alphabet dating at the weekend; I had A and took Kat to Amsterdam. It was a very short holiday there, early flight on Saturday morning from Edinburgh and late afternoon flight on the Sunday so just over 24hours however had a great time. Sunday was also my birthday and was a perfect way to spend it.

Rain at Edinburgh Airport  Sunshine coming into Amsterdam

The first photo shows the rain that we left in Edinburgh and the second is the clear blue skies for coming into Amsterdam. The weather stayed like that for the whole weekend and when we came back to Edinburgh on Sunday it was foggy, big contrast.

This was Kat and I’s first time abroad together also apart from going to America with the school when she was in 6th year Kat hadn’t been abroad. We were both very excited and Kat so much that 20mins before we landed she had to wake me up because she was so excited. Very cute!

Getting from the airport to the centre of Amsterdam by train is not very hard however we managed to get on the wrong train! Oops. Luckily we didn’t ride it to the end but got off at Utrecht which I think is a suburb of Amsterdam and then asked someone before getting on the right train. We maybe added 20-25mins onto our journey so not the end of the world, could have been a lot worse.

Kat has forgotten her sunglasses and with the way the weather was and looking to stay the first thing that we did was buy her a pair. If forgetting her sunglasses means we get weather like that hopefully she forgets them every time.

The next thing was for some food, I won’t go into every meal that we had while there as it really isn’t that exciting however the two things need mentioned. First we had some amazing waffles, Kat had her first waffle so to do that in Amsterdam is pretty amazing.

The second eating experience that is worthy of a mention is where we went for lunch on the sunday : Vapiano which was excellent ( once we could work out how it works). You get given a card which gets swiped with what you order from the kitchen area and then you pay on your way out. You get your food made fresh for you and it tasted superb, will be back thats for sure.

Was a good place to have my birthday lunch sitting out side in the sun having delicious food.

The plan for the weekend had been to use the I AMSTERDAM card and go visit at least one museum however with the weather being so nice it shamed to spend the time inside especially since we wouldn’t have very long anyway. So we changed our plan and decided just to spend the time walking around, save the card and to come back later in the year. The next few collection of photos are from us wandering around the city enjoying the sunshine and soaking up the atmosphere of Amsterdam.

Couldn’t do a blog without talking about the bicycles: there is just so many and they are everywhere! Would be great to hire one at some point but don’t know if we would be brave enough.

The next thing would be the canals and the boats.

Quirks of just wandering around the city and seeing what it had to offer:

Overall we just had fun being together and being us:

We both absolutely loved Amsterdam and the whole weekend. Our flights are already booked for a weekend in September and we are going for almost 3 whole days so will be great to be there for longer.
