The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Just back from seeing the second hobbit film and very much enjoyed. When seeing the films feel you do have to forget the book and see the films as separate. A lot extra does get added in. Orlando Bloom I don’t feel was needed at all especially with his face requiring special effects to look young.

Martin Freeman is a very talent actor in whatever part he is playing, was weird seeing him as Bilbo Baggins after spending the last few days watching him as Dr. Watson in Sherlock Holmes.

As always love the scenery, just makes me want to go back to New Zealand.

Smaug was amazing, worth seeing the film just to watch him. One of my favourite parts of the film, the other was the barrels going down the river

Sat through all the credits to see the little bit at the end, disappointed there wasn’t one. However with all the time and effort every one puts into a film feel least we can do is seeing their name up on the big screen.

The lull after Christmas

Hope everyone had a merry christmas and Santa was good to you all. Now comes the lull after Christmas before New Year. Days of watching DVDs, sorting through everything you got on the 25th and going shopping. For the first time braved the boxing day sales. We got into town about 10am but heard there were some people queuing from 4am for shops opening at 6am! Is 25% or however much you get off really worth that? Obvious is for some people but we aren’t them. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be was however still glad to have a few breaks and get home at the end of the day.

Whenever I am in town and it is really busy am always glad and grateful for bookshops; everything just seems so much calmer and peaceful. Have a look at a few books, drink and food ( in the ones that have a coffee shop in them) and let the world pass you by for a bit.  Main one in Aberdeen is Waterstones but we also love going to Books & Beans which is a second-hand book shop and cafe; great food and drink plus a lovely atmosphere and staff.

Currently sitting with Doctor Who on, see how I say it is on rather than I am watching it. I don’t like Doctor Who but Kat does and at Christmas time I put up with watching it. Usually on Christmas day itself but so much to watch that we didn’t get round to it. So here I am but am blogging which I don’t usually do when we are watching something since not very sociable.

So we are in the Christmas lull, not that I am complaining, been nice watching DVDs and just spending time with Kat. Now got Kat’s brother coming up for a few days, hopefully go to the cinema a few times. Going to go see the second Hobbit film, can’t wait to see it, really enjoyed the first one. Also hopefully going to see The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which again looking forward to see, everyone enjoys a good day dream.

On monday we are off to Glencoe to spend 4 nights at the Clachaig inn over Hogmanay. Somewhere that I have driven through but not spent that much time and of course seen plenty of pictures of the area. Really looking forward to it, being in the beautiful country of Scotland, hopefully good food, music, log fires and what always makes a place and trip; the person you go with.

It is coming to that time of year where people start thinking about New Year Resolutions, whether it is the correct thing to do or not I think it is human nature. New Year gives everybody hope that things can change. Of course everything shouldn’t be pinned on the year changing, if you want to make a change then it can be any time of the year whether that be the 23rd of February, 5th of June, 21st of October or the 1st January. Having said that the beginning of the month at the start of a new year is as good as any time, fresh start and everything.

Does making a New Year Resolution set you up for failure? Yes of course it does but making a change in your life comes with failure. People make resolutions because they want to do something different whether that means diet, exercise, seeing friends more whatever it is but change is never easier and it isn’t a one way path. 1 step forward, 2 steps back and because people have it in their mind-set that no one really keeps new year resolutions then soon as people reach a hurdle they either don’t both to jump or if they fall they don’t try again. There is a big difference between having a lapse and relapsing; trying to eat healthier and having one takeaway doesn’t mean you have failed it means you are human so let yourself have a lapse and then continue on wards.

The down fall for resolutions is people make a long list of what they want to change but they aren’t small changes like turn the lights off when leaving a room empty, no they are stop smoking, eat more fruit, drink less, do more exercise. Things that at another time of year you would just be focusing on one.

I am the same as everybody else and could come up with a long unachievable list of things I would like to change but I am going to resist. Instead I am going to give 2014 a theme and that theme is going to be activity. Each month I am going to give myself two activities that I want to aim to do but overall just to be an active person. Take whatever meaning you want from that but I don’t just mean exercise; if something needs doing that I will do it rather than putting it off, I want to be doing more in my days. Sometimes my activity will be actually physically inactive like reading a book but will still be doing something. Want to be more active towards my life, two definite goals for each month but doesn’t mean that’s all I have to do. Accept opportunities and new experiences.

So my two activities from January are one I want to go to the gym at least once a week; I used to go quite a look but have always found it easier being outdoors however got events coming up that going to the gym would be helpful for. If it is more than once a week then great but not going to beat myself up about it if I don’t. Second one is what to start a spreadsheet on my computer to monitor my spending and savings, do this already but just on paper so what something a bit more organised. Not very exciting but active towards my life.

Lets see how I get on!
